O.K., I got my first cuttings two weeks ago. One is a two tip and one is a one tip. I've planted them together in one pot. Should I have done this? I watered them till the water ran out the bottom and have kept them warm on a heating pad if needed at night. during the day they go outside to bask in the sun... Our summers are kinda short here in northern Michigan... I watered them again last evening, the soil was dry down three inches or so. But not totaly dryed out all the way to the bottom of the pot. Is my soil to heavy? Man, I really want to treat these little guys good. I guess I'm looking for affirmation from those of you who know... Plesas tell me they are gonna root o.k..... No watering until you have roots! The cuttings cannot take up any water; you are promoting rot.
If you are asking if your soil is too heavy maybe it is... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) you should have a very fast draining soil - with about half perlite mixed in.

And then you also need a very big dose of patience.
I've said it before but the immortal words of Yolanda are still true: Pot them up and then go bother something else....

Alright I promise not to water again... Is It o.k. for me to repot now with a perlite mixture? And how will I know when they take root?

agreed on the patience. i brought back a bunch of cuttings from hawaii in february and decided to pot them all up beginning of march and of the 7 i think 2 of them still arent completely rooted. some were quick to root and open up their leaves while others take longer. also depends on weather in your area, the warmer the better. less water is better. i misted mine once they started to root and if they started to get a little shriveled (more from not having enough water rather than rotting). good luck and welcome to the addiction (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
